JAFES Strengthens Regional Engagement at APAME 2026 Convention
The Journal of the ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies (JAFES) was well represented at the recently concluded APAME 2026 Annual Convention, held on 20–21 August 2026 at the Henry Sy Sr. Building, University of the Philippines Manila. The convention, themed “Publication Quality and Ethics in the AI-Age: Empowering Editorial Excellence in the Asia-Pacific,” brought together medical journal editors, researchers, authors, reviewers, librarians, and other stakeholders in scholarly publishing from across the region.
Representing JAFES were Dr. Cecilia Jimeno, Editor-in-Chief; Dr. Anna Arcellana, Associate Editor for the Philippines; Dr. Amado O. Tandoc III, Editorial Coordinator; and Ms. Melissa Tandoc, Editorial Assistant. Their participation provided an opportunity for JAFES to engage with fellow medical editors and publishing professionals and to exchange experiences on the evolving landscape of scholarly publishing in the Asia-Pacific.

A highlight of the convention was Dr. Jimeno’s plenary lecture on “Publishing Research in the Asia-Pacific Journals” on Day 2. In her presentation, Dr. Jimeno highlighted the challenges and opportunities faced by researchers in the Global South, emphasizing the importance of strengthening pathways for high-quality research from the region to reach the international scientific community. Her presentation contributed to the broader discussions at the convention on advancing publication quality and supporting researchers within the diverse publishing environments of the Asia-Pacific. The lecture was part of the Day 2 plenary session focusing on issues confronting journal editors and publishing research in the region.
JAFES was also delighted by the participation of colleagues from the regional endocrine community. Dr. Aswin Pramono of the Indonesian Society for Endocrinology joined the convention, together with Prof. Khin Saw Than, Editorial Board Member of JAFES, and Prof. Win Win Myint of the Myanmar Society for Endocrinology and Metabolism (MSEM). Their presence underscored the regional and collaborative character of JAFES and its role in connecting endocrine professionals and researchers across ASEAN and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

The convention provided valuable opportunities for JAFES to strengthen professional relationships, exchange perspectives on the future of medical publishing, and remain engaged with emerging issues affecting journals and researchers in the region. Discussions throughout the meeting included artificial intelligence and publication ethics, research integrity, peer review, indexing, editorial decision-making, and the evolving responsibilities of medical journal editors.
JAFES’ participation in APAME 2026 reaffirms its commitment to advancing high-quality endocrine research, supporting researchers in the ASEAN region, and promoting excellence, integrity, and inclusivity in scholarly publishing. Through continued engagement with the regional editorial community, JAFES looks forward to further strengthening collaboration and creating greater opportunities for endocrine research from the Global South to contribute to the global scientific literature.
